One day in 2009, over five thousand photos of Maria Celeste Arraras, a model and actress from Argentina, were uploaded to the internet. It was not until 2010 when the actress found out about these photos and decided to sue for damages. Despite her case being denied by European courts, Arraras has continued with her lawsuit which she is currently fighting in New York's Southern District Court after an appeal was approved by the US Supreme Court. The goal of this blog post is to shed light on what exactly transpired that led up to these leaked nude photographs. It also provides valuable information on how legal actions are taken against hackers/uploaders who leak private images online among others things. A woman by the name of Maria Alejandra Rimini uploaded numerous nude photographs of Arraras onto her blog, MeAmora.com. She wrote that she had received these images from an anonymous individual who worked at a clothing store in Argentina.  It has been speculated that the owner of this clothing store had personally obtained and stolen these images. The photographer’s name was later revealed to be "Fabio Cazenave," who was later discovered to be Martín Orozco, a man living in Mexico City, Mexico.   Rimini also stated that she was "disgusted" by the images. Although she had initially planned to publish all of the images on her blog, her decision to withhold certain photographs did not go over very well with Arraras fans.  A petition was created for Arraras to challenge Rimini's decision to withhold certain photos and remove them from her website. It is important to note that there were no "inappropriate" photos in these leaked photographs, however, the fact that they were private and uploaded without permission has made them a much controversial topic in this case. Arraras' legal actions have been fought against both Rimini and Orozco. Rimini was found guilty in several venues after she continued to publish connected photos. These were located in various sections of her website, including an album titled “Maria Celeste Arraras & Friends” which contained images of other celebrities. The portraits in these photographs made Arraras look much younger than she was, which could have been the reason for this decision to age-up her photos.  Orozco filed a motion against Rimini’s actions stating that she had no chance to be found guilty after all of these images have already been published on social media websites such as Tumblr and DeviantArt. In January 2010, the European Court of Justice was contacted by Arraras’ lawyer, Bojan Mirkovic. A few days later, they decided to decline Arraras’ case since the images were originally obtained from a third party. Her lawyers claimed that her privacy had been violated and she did not want to pursue this case any further. In 2012, a New York court of appeals approved an appeal for Arraras to file a lawsuit against Orozco in which he would be held responsible for all of the images that were leaked online without her consent.
